Meet the Team: David

Q1 – Can you introduce yourself?

“My name is David and I help to do maintenance on HMS Unicorn.”

Q2 – How did you get involved with the ship?

“I found out about volunteering on the ship through The Inclusion Group in Dundee. I started helping out on the ship in 2014 and have kept helping out ever since.”

Q3 – How do you help on the ship?

“I help with in lots of maintenance areas around the ship such as clearing, tidying, constructing units, woodworking (particularly sanding) and even some plumbing and cabling. Basically I lend a hand with anything & everything that might need doing!”

Q4 – What do you like most about being part of the HMS Unicorn team?

“I enjoy working with the other members of the team, both staff and volunteers, and it is great being able to socialise with everyone.”

Q5 – What is your favourite part of the ship?

“The workshop is my favourite part of the ship because we have all our equipment in there and it’s where I can get to be creative.”

Q6 – What skills have you developed on the ship?

“From helping with maintenance, I have managed to develop lots of different skills. The best of these has been learning how to properly use a wide variety of hand and power tools.”

Q7 – What would you say to anyone thinking about getting involved with volunteering at HMS Unicorn?

“It is a really fun place to volunteer and you are able to learn lots of new skills. I also think it is important to look after the ship so that it can last a long time into the future.”
