“Heroic Seadog Bamse, His Berth in Dundee”
Don’t miss this entertaining illustrated talk by well-known local authors Andrew Orr and Angus Whitson (better known as the ‘Man wi’ twa dugs’) covering Norwegian seadog mascot ‘Bamse’ and his connections with Dundee.
Tickets may be booked by telephone, e-mail or click Book an Event Online! to use our new, very convenient, online booking system.
Our first Talk by Alistair Urquhart the famous ‘Forgotten Highlander’ was a roaring success, and we look forward to continuing in similar vein. Come along, hear a fascinating story, meet like-minded people and help support Unicorn.
Angus Whitson is already well kent as Man with Two Dogs of Dundee Courier reknown, and Andrew Orr is a retired Montrose GP and enthusiastic amateur historian. The two have known each other for over 30 years and decided that ” two would be better than one” in writing their book Sea Dog Bamse WWII Canine Hero.
This partnership proved to be a good idea as the book quickly became a Scottish bestseller, and is now in its fifth reprint. It has been translated into Norwegian, and is on sale around the English speaking world.
The pair were somewhat nervous of the launch of an e-book edition by Amazon Kindle in 2011, but subsequently delighted when this went to the No 1 position in several categories. All this attention has lead the authors up new garden paths – a few radio and TV appearances, many talks and presentations – even an event at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. In the illustrated Unicorn talk on 6th February the two will focus more on the Dundee escapades of the famous sea dog Bamse.
