Sunday 9th May 2pm – 5pm Brechin Castle Garden Opening
Brechin Castle Gardens open under the ‘Scotland’s Gardens’ scheme (the famous ‘Yellow Book’) and a proportion of the proceeds are kindly donated to the Unicorn Preservation Society.
Brechin Castle is an ancient fortress of the Scottish kings built on a dramatic cliff overlooking the River South Esk. The spectacular, south-facing Walled Garden is approached by woodland walks and contains both formal and informal, ancient and modern plantings. The upper terrace is guarded by a venerable castellated yew hedge which sets off a glorious pair of mature paperbark maples, and the garden is filled with the fruits of Victorian plant hunting expeditions growing side-by-side with more recent botanical discoveries.
Great flowering cherry trees spreading over beautifully mown lawns and a brilliant display of magnificent rhododendrons and azaleas make this a magical time of year to visit the garden. Bask in sunshine on the lawn outside the tea pavilion, or enjoy a walk under the huge surrounding beech trees which ensure shelter whatever the Scottish spring weather may bring!
Don’t miss this extraordinary garden opening… An opportunity for a wonderful day amongst flowers, shrubs, trees and friends, and an opportunity to support Unicorn at the same time!
