Q1 – Can you introduce yourself?
“My name is Bethany and I am involved with the Learning & Engagement programme on board the ship.”
Q2 – How did you get involved with the ship?
“I visited the ship a while back and my partner Daniel (who also volunteers on board) told me about getting involved. I wouldn’t describe myself as a “ship fanatic” but I find the history of Unicorn very interesting.”
Q3 – How do you help on the ship?
“By helping with the Learning & Engagement programme, I have been involved with the development and delivery of public workshops as well as organising the various on-board educational material. I’ve also been involved with some of the Volunteer Work Nights, getting my hands dirty clearing storerooms, cleaning bulkheads and shifting timbers.”
Q4 – What do you like most about being part of the HMS Unicorn team?
“I love being able to do craft work as I don’t have much opportunity to do this at home.”
Q5 – What is your favourite part of the ship?
“I’m not sure if I actually have a favourite part! I enjoy the entire ship so couldn’t pick a favourite bit.”
Q6 – What skills have you developed on the ship?
“Creativity! Learning & Engagement always requires thinking of new and different ideas, coming up with innovative solutions and planning exciting ways to engage people with the historic ship.”
Q7 – What would you say to anyone thinking about getting involved with volunteering at HMS Unicorn?
“It is a really enjoyable place to spend your time, even if like me you aren’t a “ship fanatic”. I’d very highly recommend getting involved to anyone.”
Q8 – Sum up HMS Unicorn in 3 words
“Enjoyable historic ship.”
